Lynyrd Skynyrd late guitarist Gary Rossington with the new album Celebrating 50 Years: Live at the Ryman . The album consists of 15 new versions of the band's songs and a bonus track.

Such an important production couldn't possibly have guests of equal stature: Brent Smith , Jelly Roll , John Osborne , Marcus King and Donnie Van Zant , brother of the band's current vocalist , Johnny , and of the first vocalist and founder , Ronnie , who died in the plane crash on October 20, 1977. Steve Gaines and Cassie Gaines, members of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd lineup, also died in this accident.

Gary Rossington was also in the accident, and he was extremely important for the band's return after the tragedy that marked the history of the US music scene. His work in keeping his bandmates' legacy alive for so many decades is a great example of perseverance and love for music.

The guitarist had been facing health problems, including undergoing emergency heart surgery Tampa Bay Times , published on April 27, 2018, Gary reported that for the past 15 years, his doctors had encouraged him to stop performing: "I've had several heart attacks on stage." Gary Rossington died at age 71 on March 5, 2023.
