One of the biggest names in classic rock history, Lynyrd Skynyrd arrived at Monsters of Rock 2026 as a co-headliner and one of the main attractions of the event.

In 2023, the veteran band had returned to Brazil for the first time in twelve years, but given their popularity here and the advanced age of its members, the group took only three years to return, this time with a notable absence: Gary Rossington, guitarist of the original lineup, who passed away that same year.

Led by vocalist Johnny Van Zant, the band delivered a flawless and emotional performance, both in their tribute to Rossington and in their remembrance of the victims of the tragic 1977 plane crash, an event that marked one of the most impressive acts of overcoming adversity in the history of music.

Fueled by high-quality classic rock, many tears flowed during anthems like "Tuesday's Gone," the iconic "Simple Man," and especially the magnificent "Free Bird," which sent shivers down the audience's spine and was once again marked by emotion when a photo of the late original vocalist Ronnie Van Zant.

Overall, the band stands out live simply because it features a trio of heavyweight guitarists: Rickey Medlocke, Damon Johnson and Mark Matejka, who, along with backing vocalists Carol Chase and Stacey Michelle and keyboardist Peter Keys, are responsible for creating an extremely full-bodied and vibrant sound.

Despite their more than 50-year career, Lynyrd Skynyrd may have had few appearances in Brazil, but their performance at the festival proved that their hits are timeless enough to justify any delay the band might have taken to perform here.
