Lynyrd Skynyrd has released a statement to inform fans about the band's future, following the loss of founding member Gary Rossington in March of this year. The information comes from Loudwire .
The group already had plans to go on tour to celebrate 50 years of their career and decided not to cancel the schedule after a consensus between family members of deceased members and the current musicians of the Lynyrd Skynyrd lineup, according to a note published on social media this Tuesday, the 4th.
“The current band members, led by Johnny Van Zant , vocalist for 36 years, were unsure if they would continue after Gary’s untimely death. After much discussion with the band, the families of Ronnie Van Zant, Allen Collins and Dale Rossington , the collective reached a unified agreement and feels that continuing to perform live and keep the music alive is in the best interest of the fans and everyone involved,” they said in a statement.
Dale Rossington, Gary's widow, also commented in the statement. “I recently lost my husband and partner of over 41 years. He was an incredible father, grandfather, brother, and friend, but most importantly, a world-class musician and songwriter,” she wrote. “His music touched so many millions of people around the world, and Gary was always the first to say, ‘Skynyrd’s music is bigger than me or anyone else.’ And it was always his goal to keep the music alive for his brothers because that was always their dream.”.
Lynyrd Skynyrd's new tour takes place alongside ZZ Top , who also lost Dusty Hill and decided to continue their activities . The North American dates begin on April 29th and run until September 17th in what is called The Sharp Dressed Simple Man Tour . Learn more on the band's official website
