On October 20, 1977, Lynyrd Skynyrd suffered a great loss. The band was at the peak of their career and touring the world with the Street Survivors when a plane crash killed vocalist Ronnie van Zant , guitarist Steve Gaines , and backing vocalist Cassie Gaines , Steve's sister, as well as manager Dean Kilpatrick .
The plane crashed while carrying the band to a concert at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, losing altitude near Gillsburg, Mississippi. The plane broke in two upon impact. Now, this story will be made into a film.
Street Survivors: The True Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash will premiere on February 16 at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival and will be available on on-demand platforms, DVD, and Blu-ray on June 30.
The film will be told from the perspective of Artimus Pyle , drummer for Lynyrd Skynyrd and one of the survivors of the accident. The soundtrack, which features several classic songs from the band, will also be released alongside the film.
Directed and written by Jared Cohn , Street Survivors: The True Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash does not yet have a release date in Brazil.
