Ibagenscast video podcast , Luis Mariutti revealed that the song "Fairy Tale" by Shaman is actually a track that was discarded by Angra at the time, Chris Tsangarides .
According to Mariutti, "Fairy Tale" was originally written to be part of Fireworks , Angra's third studio album, but the medieval arrangement that Andre Matos had given the song, with an old-fashioned accent and elaborate lyrics, made the producer laugh.
“When he [Andre] presented this song to Chris Tsangarides, who was a producer who came from Painkiller in the 70s, [with] Gary Moore , Thin Lizzy , he heard it and cracked up. He was laughing his ass off,” says the bassist.
According to Mariutti, the producer's attitude, who left "dancing around the studio, laughing his ass off," bothered Andre Matos, but the song wasn't used by Angra. However, when drummer Ricardo Confessori asked for a ballad for Shaman's album Ritual , "Fairy Tale" received a second chance to see the light of day.
“Andre Matos showed us the song and we said, 'No, let's do a different thing. Take away that medieval aspect, let's make a metal ballad.' Of course, it has an orchestration, it has a medieval spirit in the chorus. When Andre composed it, he envisioned it with all those characteristics, with instruments, and it didn't work out. It ended up working out the way we did it on Ritual , and I think it turned out quite well.”
