In early 2024, the band Lucifer released their highly anticipated new album , Lucifer V , featuring interesting compositions and representing an evolution.
Now, a few months later, the band is on tour promoting their new album, coming to Brazil for the second time during the month of October.
The band's visit will be brief. The Satanic Panic Tour arrives in Rio de Janeiro on the 5th, at Agyto , then moves on to São Paulo on the 6th, at Fabrique Club , and concludes in Belo Horizonte on the 8th, at Caverna Rock Pub.
In an exclusive interview with Wikimetal , vocalist Johanna Sadonis discussed her upcoming visit to the country, her career, the band's name, and more!
Released in January, the singer says she's in love with the tracks on the new album, but there's one in particular that captures her heart and is her favorite to perform live: "At The Mortuary".
One detail in particular that really catches the listeners' attention is her voice, especially in this work, but she doesn't think that's the group's trademark: "I think Lucifer in general has a bit of its own sound. You know, I think Lucifer doesn't try to sound like other bands."
She's already a veteran of the scene. Having been in the music industry for several years, she commented on the advantages of this factor: “I think maybe you don't make as many mistakes anymore. Because at the beginning of Lucifer, I think I was kind of naive about a lot of things, and I learned some things the hard way. Like, for example, when you sign a contract with a record label, you should definitely have a lawyer review the contract. I didn't do that on the first album, which came back to haunt me.”
And he even gave advice to beginners: "So I always said, you know, to new bands, 'please don't sign any contracts without consulting a lawyer.' And, yes, you learn a lot with each album, also about the music industry and other things."
Regarding the name, it might be controversial for some, but not for Sadonis, even though she was initially somewhat hesitant to use it. “But then I thought, screw it, I don’t care what others say. I think it’s a very good name. And I can identify a lot with the fallen angel that Lucifer is, because I never felt like I belonged.”
“When I was a kid and in school and later and so on, somehow I never really fit in anywhere. I was always kind of an outsider. And I have a feeling that it’s the same even today with Lucifer, that Lucifer is kind of different.”
“For example, we often play with very different bands. It could be a doom band, it could be a death metal band. They put us in black metal festivals where we're the only band that sounds like what we do. It's so different. And I always feel like I don't really fit in.”
Regarding Brazil, although this is the band's second time here, it's Sadonis' third time, as he's already been here with The Hellacopters .
She explained that the last tour was tiring and stressful, because they spent only one day in each country, but when they arrived in Brazil, “we had a few days off, and that was really cool because we could just relax and, like, walk to the beach. And I got a coconut on the beach, of course, like you do when you're Lucifer. We ate really well and so on and met some friends and stuff, so I really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere.”
The artist also praised the audience here, describing them as "open-minded and enthusiastic. And then, of course, it's much more fun for a band to play. And you kind of have sparks flying between the stage and the audience."
