Mark Lewisohn , a scholar and Beatles , found a recording that shows John Lennon , Paul McCartney , and George Harrison discussing the band's next steps after the release of Abbey Road in 1969.

The tape was made by Lennon so Ringo Starr could listen to it later, as the drummer was in the hospital being treated for an intestinal problem he had at the time. In the recording, the three discuss releasing a single that Christmas and also a new album.

The passage that will most fascinate fans is where Lennon suggests that the band release the new work in a different format, perhaps as a single with him, Paul, and George writing four songs each and Starr two, if he wanted. The impressive thing is that John Lennon has always been considered responsible for the end of the iconic band.

The musician also suggests that Paul McCartney offer tracks like "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" to other artists, as he felt the Beatles' next album should only include songs that all four of them liked. Paul responded by saying that he recorded the song in question because he liked it. This shows the difficulty the quartet was facing while working together.
