The book ' Lollapalooza : The Uncensored Story of Alternative Rock's Wildest Festival , by New York Times Richard Bienstock and Tom Beaujour , is released today in the United States. Published by St. Martin's Press , it does not yet have a Portuguese translation.

The book chronicles the early years of the festival (1991 to 1997), from its creation conceived by Perry Farrell as a farewell tour for Jane's Addiction, to the difficulties in the following years, trying to combine alternative culture with financial return.

The book features a foreword by Kim Thayil of Soundgarden and hundreds of new interviews with everyone involved in the show business , including artists such as Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails, Tool , Sonic Youth, Green Day, Alice in Chains, Metallica , and of course, Jane's Addiction.

Lollapalooza was discontinued in 1997 and only returned in 2003. Over the years it has adapted to the market, offering a diverse range of bands, breaking down genre barriers and uniting styles from alternative rock and heavy metal to pop and electronic music. Today it has editions in South America and Europe, being one of the biggest alternative festivals.
