A bold choice for the festival's lineup, Dead Fish inaugurated the Budweiser stage at Lollapalooza Brasil 2025 in the early afternoon of this Friday, the 28th. Known for being the space for headliner performances, the audience arrived at the festival from the opening of the gates; mostly fans of pop singer Olivia Rodrigo , the last artist to perform that night.
The hardcore band, formed in 1991 in Vitória, Espírito Santo, released the album Labirinto da Memória in early 2024 and spent the year performing throughout Brazil for a loyal audience and a new one, now becoming accustomed to national hardcore. This behavior was also seen at the festival, where the presence of new fans and potential fans was noticeable.
We spoke with some people who were there to see the show. Olivia Rodrigo's fans, Julia , 19, from Belo Horizonte, and Maria Fernanda , 17, from Rio de Janeiro, said: “We don't know the band and we've never been to a heavier rock show, but we're excited to have a different experience and discover the other styles that will be played on this stage tonight.”
Matheus, 19, from Praia Grande – SP, has been a fan of the band for some time and says that "the expectation is that Olivia Rodrigo's fans won't even get up for the show." He also said that he would definitely join the mosh pits, famous at hardcore shows, and that he came to support Fontaines DC , a band that canceled their shows in Brazil because the vocalist discovered a herniated disc. "I'm also excited for Inhaler ," a band that will also be performing at the festival this Friday.
The Dead Fish show began with frontman Rodrigo Lima introducing the band, and the group's political climate permeated the performance from beginning to end, with strong criticism of fascism. The setlist included "Asfalto," "Venceremos," "Queda Livre"—where the audience chanted "Rodrigo!" after the vocalist said, "I'm not Olivia, but I'm Rodrigo, applaud me!"—and "Estaremos Lá," a song from the band's latest album.
The band, as usual, delivered a visceral show, somewhat the opposite of the audience's reception, which was largely composed of fans of the day's headliner.
