Lobão participated in a controversial interview on the program Benja Me Mucho , on the night of last Tuesday, the 7th, in which he gave his opinion about Iron Maiden , saying that the band is "crap".
In the nearly 2-hour conversation, Lobão and journalist Benjamin Back discussed various topics, including the Heavy Metal genre, at which point Benjamin Back asked if Lobão liked Iron Maiden .
In an excited tone, Lobão says [ transcription via Wikimetal ]: “No way! Imagine! I'm a refined man. I like Cactus, Humble Pie . Imagine a guy who listened to Humble Pie and then likes Iron Maiden.” Still talking about heavy metal, Lobão compares some rock shows to a juggling act: “They put the robot there, the puppets. It looks like I'm watching a show at Thievoni Park, a circus.”
The Brazilian musician continues, still referring to Iron Maiden: “Three little guitars doing that. They play together, it’s so tacky [referring to the band’s three guitarists, Dave Murray , Adrian Smith , and Janick Gers ]. For God’s sake. Are you a man or are you playing with children? Play properly, go play your guitar, stop doing that dancing, that choreography…”.
Lobão's opinion on Iron Maiden
Benjamin Back , already indignant, questions whether Lobão doesn't get emotional when Bruce Dickinson , the vocalist of Iron Maiden , sings "Scream for me Brazil". Lobão then replies:
"It has to be really hammy. It sounds like a guy, a terrible actor, singing in an exaggerated way. Strangler, histrionic. The lyrics are awful. The guitar arrangements are garbage. It's garbage. It's trash. Iron Maiden is garbage. I'm serious."
The musician also jokes and criticizes the offensive behavior of the band's fans, describing them as "mentally minded" and easily offended. He even suggests that if someone is offended, they should seek a "psychoanalyst" and have "sportsmanship."
"One thing every mentally minded person is, is easily offended. Those guys get extremely offended. If I hear 'ah, I like Megadeth ,' f*ck it. F*ck it. That's your problem, go see a psychoanalyst. You have to have sportsmanship. Iron Maiden is like a Corinthians fan base: 'Maiden! Maiden! Maiden!'"
Then, someone in the audience asks if Lobão likes Mötley Crüe , and the musician replies: “I'm from the 70s. That's horse manure.”
Lobão says he likes AC/DC , and also commented on Motörhead : “I think Motörhead is cool, but I'm not going to listen to Motörhead, but I think it's okay. I'll give them a chance, but I'm not going to buy the Motörhead album.”
