New lizard species named in honor of Bruce Dickinson

Discovered in Peru, the animal was named in honor of the Iron Maiden vocalist

Last week, biologists discovered a new species of lizard hidden in the rugged terrain of Peru and named it after one of the most recognizable voices in heavy metal, Iron Maiden's vocalist Bruce Dickinson .

Enyalioides dickinsoni , as its scientific name has been established, was sighted in the remote corners of the Cordillera de Colán, located north of Lima, the country's capital. With its distinct characteristics and remarkable habitat, the newly discovered species has already won the hearts not only of specialists in the field, but also of metal music lovers.

According to Reptiles Magazine , Enyalioides dickinsoni displays a striking appearance, with spiny scales adorning its body and a pronounced crest along its back, a feature shared by both males and females. Its coloration varies from vibrant green with yellowish spots to subtle shades, accompanied by distinct white throats.

Notably, the females exhibit a spectrum of color variations, ranging from dark brown to pale greenish tones, with some sporting distinct black stripes on their tails. The bellies of these creatures are characterized by a "pristine white" to a yellowish hue and have a length, from snout to tail tip, between 92mm and 113mm.
