Live Nation buys a stake in Rock in Rio

First edition of Rock In Rio in 1985

Live Nation, the entertainment company responsible for Lollapalooza in Brazil, Chile, and Argentina, and for Ticketmaster, as well as tours in Brazil such as the Foo Fighters tour with Queens Of The Stone Age, has acquired a 50% stake in Rock In Rio.

Roberto Medina, founder of the festival, spoke about the partnership: “We are very pleased to bring together the world's largest music festival with the largest entertainment company on the planet. The partnership will generate a series of synergies that will allow for even greater ambitions for Rock In Rio. We are two companies with a unified global vision and the ability to achieve great dreams.” Despite the sale, he will remain in charge of production.

Rock in Rio originated in Brazil in 1985, and has also had editions in Lisbon, Madrid, and Las Vegas, featuring acts such as Iron Maiden, Metallica, Scorpions, Queen, AC/DC, Ozzy Osbourne, Yes, Whitesnake, Judas Priest, Megadeth, and others.
