Black Sabbath fan has heard the iconic Ronnie James Dio sing "War Pigs" with the group, but the gem recently found and revived is even more surprising than that.
After Ozzy Osbourne Black Sabbath in 1979, Ronnie James Dio joined to replace him and make the band even more iconic. Dio brought his lyrical genius to the group, while Tony Iommi experimented with different riffs.
On stage, Dio, in addition to the songs he created with his bandmates, also had to sing those from his time with Ozzy, and today we can hear them on Live Evil , a live album released in 1982. There, we hear Dio singing the great Black Sabbath songs with Ozzy, which is incredible, but nothing compares to this new discovery.
Ten years before joining Black Sabbath, Dio was with Elf , recording and touring. In their shows, they often played, in addition to their own songs, music that inspired them, such as "Black Dog" by Led Zeppelin , "Baba O'Riley" by The Who , "Aqualung" by Jethro Tull , and more. Among these covers, the group had one that was quite frequent in their setlists : "War Pigs" by Black Sabbath , an iconic song from the band's second album, Paranoid (1970).
Someone found a recording of Dio singing “War Pigs” at an Elf show in 1972, seven years before he joined Black Sabbath, and uploaded it to YouTube. It's an incredible recording. Check it out below.
