Listen to Lamb Of God playing “Kerosene” by Big Black.

Lamb Of God's new album will be released on May 18th.

Lamb Of God today released the single from their upcoming album, Legion: XX , which will be released as Burn The Priest, the band's original name, and will feature covers of bands that influenced them.

Lamb Of God emerged in 1994, when it was still called Burn The Priest. A year later, with the arrival of vocalist Randy Blythe, the band changed its name. Guitarist Mark Morton said: “To truly understand the essence of Burn The Priest, you first have to consider the landscape in which it began: the mid-90s. Grunge and alternative music dominated. Social media and the internet hadn't yet assumed their role as our collective sources of entertainment and cultural exchange. It was a time when zines transformed us into new regional bands and scenes, and 'copy and paste' still implied a printing press and glue.”

The self-titled debut album, Burn The Priest, released by Legion Records, documented what was, in essence, a Punk band that played Metal. As they grew in popularity, the group chose to change their name to avoid being associated with satanic Metal, choosing Lamb Of God. Now the band returns to its roots and will release a covers album under the name Burn The Priest.

“The songs we chose for this album reflect that history. The inspiration we drew from those bands and those songs appears in our work and creative activities to this day. Many thanks to those bands for igniting our fire and infinite gratitude to our fans around the world for keeping it burning.”.

"Kerosene" is a cover of a song by the American band Big Black.
