On May 14, 2007, Linkin Park released Minutes to Midnight , their third studio album. Produced by Mike Shinoda and Rick Rubin , the album was a great commercial success and achieved significant sales figures.
Linkin Park has always been a rather peculiar band compared to their nu-metal peers who broke out around the same time. Seeming extremely angry, yet charming at the same time, with melodic synthesizers and profound lyrics, the band was immortalized by Chester Bennington .
Here are some of the achievements of the album, which turns 18 this Wednesday:
Five Platinum Records
The album earned five platinum certifications, the last one in 2022 – according to the Recording Industry Association of America ( RIAA ) – reaching 5 million copies sold. 15 years after its debut, the album continued to increase its sales; in the United States alone, it had the highest sales in its first week of release, with 623,000 copies.
Deluxe version and bonus tracks
In the year celebrating the 15th anniversary of Minutes to Midnight , Linkin Park released a deluxe version of the album with 4 bonus tracks: “No Roads Left” and “Across The Line” – which were previously only available on the Japanese version – and two remixes of the singles “What I've Done” and “Given Up”.
Billions Club with “What I've Done”
In early 2025, Linkin Park reached another milestone in their career. The single "What I've Done" became the newest member of Spotify's Billion Play Club – a playlist launched in 2020 by the platform that includes all songs that have reached that number of plays on the streaming service.
Soundtrack from the movie Transformers (2007)
With "What I've Done," the band secured a spot on the soundtrack of the 2007 film Transformers , gaining recognition in pop culture and solidifying their reach at that time.
Grammy nomination for Best Hard Rock Performance
The song “What I've Done” also earned a Grammy Best Hard Rock Performance category . However, the nomination was due to the live performance of the song, featured on the live album Road to Revolution: Live at Milton Keynes . However, Linkin Park lost the Grammy to AC/DC with the song “War Machine.”
