Lindsey Buckingham remains disappointed at being fired from Fleetwood Mac in 2018, but still hopes the group will reunite for a farewell tour.
In a recent interview with Conan O'Brien for SiriusXM , the musician told his side of the story about his dismissal and hinted that Stevie Nicks played a significant role in his downfall.
It's worth remembering that Stevie has previously stated that she had nothing to do with Lindsey's dismissal .
“Other band members weren’t happy with what was happening at that time. And I think everyone would have liked me to stay, but they did what they felt they had to do at that moment. And that’s understandable. There’s no one to point fingers at, really. That’s rock and roll, right?” (via Ultimate Classic Rock )
“I was part of the band for almost 45 years and – this is part of our legacy – we always managed to deal with our differences regarding issues that were much deeper than the friction that occurred in 2018,” said Buckingham.
Lindsey's inability to overcome personal problems for the sake of Fleetwood Mac left him hurt, and the situation worsened when he was replaced by Neil Finn and Mike Campbell on tour.
“The whole band allowing this to happen, perhaps out of some level of frankness, disrespected the legacy we built,” he continued. “Because for 45 years we went through some very difficult times, some very difficult years, and we came back. As I said, that’s our legacy. So, to a certain extent, going out and doing something more generic wasn’t honoring our legacy.”
Could a Fleetwood Mac reunion still happen?

However, the band remains beloved by fans, and if at some point the group decides to do another tour, Buckingham would very much like to be a part of it.
“In a heartbeat, absolutely,” he confirmed when asked if he would accept an invitation to return to the band. “If there’s more to come [from Fleetwood Mac], if there’s a way to heal this, it would be great. It would be very fitting to end it like that.”
