Outside the world of metal, the music of the moment is a pop hit. Recently, rapper Lil Nas X broke the internet with the release of the song “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)”. Best known for his hit song “Old Town Road”, Nas X had his fanbase in a frenzy for nine months after posting a preview of the song in July 2020 and announcing that it would be called “Call Me By Your Name” in reference to the 2017 film of the same name.

The song became a hit online, not only because it was highly anticipated by the rapper's audience, but also because of its controversial music video, which has caused quite a stir in Christian communities in the United States. In the video, Lil Nas X used surprising CGI work to create digital scenarios reminiscent of well-known places in Christian mythology, such as the Garden of Eden and a kind of purgatory, where his character goes to judgment after death. The scene that has caused controversy around the world refers to the moment when Lil Nas X descends on a pole dance to hell and dances in the lap of the figure of Satan.

Since any kind of hype is still hype, the rapper used his social media to respond to the comments in a humorous way, especially by reposting TikTok trends on his Instagram profile. Along with hundreds of trends created by fans, Lil Nas X recently reposted a drummer and a guitarist performing a short heavy rock version of the song, which gained an even more captivating feel.

This isn't the first time metal has broken into the mainstream and found success on TikTok. Recently, TikToker Zaria gained notoriety on the platform for her guitar covers of Metallica songs . Her success was so great that she received sponsorship from Sully Guitars.

In January, Papa Roach also jumped on the millennial bandwagon and teamed up with Jeris Johnson , a phenomenon on the app, to launch a new version of the classic "Last Resort".
