Liam Gallagher is one of the biggest names in music for those who lived through (or, like me, are obsessed with) the 90s. Oasis , the band that marked a generation and gave historic concerts at the end of the last century, may have ended, but it's still possible to relive fragments of that golden age in the Gallagher brothers' concerts.
Before the musician even took the stage on Tuesday night, the 15th, Britpop was already present – not only through the Oasis t-shirts worn by fans, but also through the show's opening song; "I Am the Resurrection" by The Stone Roses set the tone for Liam's well-known egotistical attitude. Then, amidst projections on the screens with images from the tour and of the musician himself, the show began. On stage, in front of an MCFC ( Manchester City ; the team beloved by the singer) flag, Liam appeared as the very resurrection of Britpop: hair plastered to his face, colorful jacket and rattles in hand, opening the night with the Oasis hit "Morning Glory".
The night continued with non-stop hits: “Stand By Me”, “Live Forever”, “Wonderwall”, “Champagne Supernova”, “Some Might Say” and “Supersonic” marked what was definitely an Oasis show. Liam embraced his position as a canon for the band that made him in music, and with that he kept the show consistent and lively even in songs from his solo career (very close to Oasis compositions in the 90s). “Wall of Glass”, “Everything's Electric” and “More Power” are some of Gallagher's solo career songs that also marked the artist's setlist yesterday.
The singer's charisma and enthusiasm for the Brazilian audience did not go unnoticed. Amidst jokes about the World Cup and after dedicating "Some Might Say" to Brazilian national team player Gabriel Jesus , Gallagher dedicated "Live Forever" to his own jacket, perhaps a reference to the fact that Britpop is still alive and 'looking good'. The fans were left with the choruses: From the classic songs that marked the 90s, Liam stepped away from the microphone, and the warm and nostalgic audience set the tone. Definitely a night to be remembered by those who were present at Espaço Unimed on Tuesday night.
This Wednesday, November 16th, the artist heads to Rio de Janeiro for his last show in Brazil before leaving for Mexico. We expect the same and are already telling our fans in Rio: get ready for a lot of nostalgia!
