Marianne & Leonard: Words of Love explores the musician's relationship with his muse, Marianne Ihlen.

Leonard Cohen and his love life will be the subject of a new documentary, and the first trailer has been released. Marianne & Leonard: Words Of Love will tell the story of the singer and his muse , Marianne Ihlen , who inspired songs like "So Long, Marianne".

The trailer begins with a news report of Ihlen's death in 2016, followed by a narration of the love letter Cohen wrote to her: “Dear Marianne, I’m just behind you – close enough to take your hand.” The musician died four months after Ihlen.

Marianne & Leonard: Words Of Love will show Cohen and Ihlen meeting in 1960 on the Greek island of Hydra when he was still a struggling artist and explores the couple's relationship.

The film is scheduled to premiere on July 5th in the United States. Watch the trailer below.
