A large statue of Lemmy Kilmister , iconic leader of Motörhead , was unveiled at this year's Hellfest, one of Europe's biggest metal festivals. The event took place this past weekend and will continue into next weekend in Clisson, France.
The new Lemmy statue replaces the previous sculpture, which had been erected six years ago but was deteriorating. The new statue is the creation of Caroline Brisset , a French sculptor who works with steel and concrete to achieve a dreamlike effect.
Brisset was contacted last November by Hellfest organizer Ben Barbaud about the statue, and she immediately accepted the job. “I said ‘yes’ because it was a big project,” she told Ouest-France . “And it was also a great challenge to make such a large statue in such a short time.”
Mikkey Dee , former drummer of Motörhead and currently a member of Scorpions , shared a photo of the statue on social media with the following caption: “Great Lemmy statue/monument being unveiled at Hellfest, France. Can’t wait to return to one of my favorite festivals in Europe. See you all there on Thursday!”
