Motörhead's vocalist was battling cancer.

Ian Fraser Kilmister, born on December 24, 1945 in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, known worldwide as "Lemmy," passed away today.

The bassist, vocalist, founder, and leader of Motörhead had been experiencing health problems, which led the band to cancel several shows in recent years. According to a post on the band's official Facebook page, Lemmy passed away from a recently discovered cancer.

Ozzy Osbourne made the following statement: “Today I lost one of my best friends, Lemmy. He will be greatly missed. He was a warrior and a legend. See you on the other side.”

Musicians post messages in tribute to Lemmy.

Lemmy founded Motörhead in 1975 after being fired from the band Hawkwind, and in over 40 years of career he created legendary songs such as Ace Of Spades, Killed By Death, Iron Fist, Overkill, among many others.

The statement posted on Motörhead's official page reads:

There's no easy way to say this… Our great and noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He learned of the disease on December 26th and was at home, in front of his favorite video game, The Rainbow, with his family.
We can't even begin to express our shock and sadness. There are no words.
We will talk more in the coming days, but for now, please… Play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy's music LOUD. Have some drinks. Share stories.
Celebrate the LIFE that this incredible man celebrated so actively.
HE WOULD HAVE WANTED EXACTLY THAT.
