The thrash metal band Legion of the Damned posted a photo in which the members appeared imitating monkey emojis – those with ears, mouth and eyes covered – and eating a banana.
The group posted the image last Sunday, the 8th, with the caption "Bye Bye Brazil" after their performance at Setembro Negro in São Paulo over the weekend. Faced with negative comments on the post, the band deleted it and apologized with a message in Portuguese:
"It seems we made a big mistake posting a silly 'deaf-dumb-blind' photo on our Facebook. The joke completely lost its context and, please believe us: It was never our intention! We truly love our Brazilian fans to the fullest and, therefore, it's only fair that we offer our sincerest apologies as we didn't foresee the impact this could cause."
"I think that having slept poorly and being jet-lagged prevented us from imagining that this could sound offensive. Our drummer has a Brazilian girlfriend, and we didn't imagine that, because we're such fools, it would have such a negative impact. My apologies, once again."
