Led Zeppelin wins plagiarism lawsuit over "Stairway to Heaven," setting a precedent.

The case has been under discussion since the first phase of the process in 2016.

Led Zeppelin has won the lawsuit over the copyright of the classic song "Stairway to Heaven," according to The Hollywood Reporter .

On Monday, the 9th, the judges ruled in favor of Led Zeppelin, stating that a new trial will not be necessary to discuss the matter. The band won against Spirit, who accused them of plagiarizing "Taurus" from 1967.

In 2016, the trial had already determined that Led Zeppelin did not plagiarize Spirit's work, but lawyers requested a new examination of the evidence, since the jury was unable to hear the Spirit song in question. The reason for this was that the instrumental version of "Taurus" was never commercially released, only registered as a patent by the author.

“The world of copyright has changed a great deal during the 20th century, and our decision was informed by that,” stated Judge Margaret McKeown . The ruling sets a precedent for other copyright cases in the U.S.
