Finding true friends in the entertainment industry can be a real challenge. But in an interview for the new issue of Classic Rock Magazine (via LouderSound ), Geddy Lee reveals how Robert Plant was an exception to that rule at a crucial moment for Rush .
Lee reveals that Rush found themselves in a precarious state after the tragic death of Neil Peart , Selena , who died at only 19 years old in a car accident in 1997. With this shock, the band went on a long hiatus, only seeing the possibility of a comeback when the Led Zeppelin contacted Geddy.

“ [Jimmy] Page and [Robert] Plant were on tour with the album Walking Into Clarksdale (1998) and they came to Toronto. Someone kept calling our office saying they were speaking on behalf of Robert Plant and that they needed to talk to me. Nobody believed it, but it was really him,” the artist recalls.
“We were on hiatus after Selena passed away and we weren’t in a good place. I called Robert back, and he wanted us to go to their [Page and Plant’s] show, and I was pretty down at the time. And he said, ‘No, come to the show and we’ll talk.’ He understood what was going on with the band. I remember him saying, ‘You need to get your life back on track, and sooner rather than later. So get your ass up here.’ So I called Alex [Lifeson] and we went to see Page and Plant,” the musician concludes.
