Led Zeppelin 's fourth studio album , known as IV , continues to earn certifications for sales figures 50 years after its release on November 8, 1971.

According to Loudwire , the legendary album has earned new platinum certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the organization responsible for cataloging record sales in the United States. This new milestone marks the album's first since 2006, when it achieved 23x platinum status.

Each platinum certification is equivalent to one million records sold. Therefore, Led Zeppelin IV is the most commercially successful album in the United States in the band's discography, followed by Physical Graffiti (16x platinum), Led Zeppelin II (12x), and Houses of the Holy (11x).

Responsible for some of the band's greatest classics, from "Black Dog" to "Stairway to Heaven," the album never received an official title and became known simply as "four.".
