Led Zeppelin: Facebook censors Houses Of The Holy cover

The cover of the 1973 album, Houses Of The Holy, has been banned from several social media posts

Facebook has begun banning the cover art for Led Zeppelin 's Houses Of The Holy .

Created by designer Aubrey Powell , the collage for the band's fifth album shows nude figures climbing a mountain. The surreal image was photographed with two child actors.

Facebook user Michelle Kaotic was surprised when an image she uploaded to Facebook in 2011 was deleted. At the same time, she had shared the image at an event celebrating Led Zeppelin's anniversary.

“At first I was shocked, thinking it was an isolated incident,” she said in an interview about the censorship. Soon, she discovered that others had gone through the same thing. She then created a petition to discuss the matter with Facebook, arguing that it affected fans of the band. Within 30 minutes of the petition being published, the link was flagged as violating Facebook's content rules.

“I created another post talking about the censorship and discovered that everyone who shared the link was receiving warnings. All because the image was the album cover. Some members were banned from the site for 24 hours. Some for three days.”

The ban appears to highlight problems with Facebook's censorship algorithm. According to sources, Facebook has not responded to attempts to resolve the issue.
