The American website Loudwire found a video of Layne Staley honoring her son at a charity event in Seattle.

In the video, Nancy Staley appears singing “Wake Up,” a track from the classic album Above by Mad Season Alice in Chains vocalist . According to the website, Nancy said that her son tried to warn people about the dangers of drugs in his songs. “It’s a trap, and it’s a trap that even I can’t escape,” she recalled.

After Layne's death in 2002 from an overdose, his mother created a foundation in his name that helps drug addicts in Seattle. The city council later declared August 22nd, the singer's birthday, as Layne Staley's official day.
