The São Paulo state government vetoed on Saturday, the 30th, the bill that would have ended half-price tickets for students and senior citizens, which had been approved on Wednesday, the 27th, by the Legislative Assembly.
The veto was signed by the president of the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo, Deputy Carlão Pignatari (PSDB), who is acting as governor. He assumed the state government after João Doria (PSDB) and Vice-Governor Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB) traveled abroad.
In the text, the president states that the bill is unconstitutional, since federal law guarantees the right to the benefit. “[The bill] is not in accordance with federal law, which ensures the benefit for 40% of the total tickets available for each event.”
"It was concluded that the matter is sufficiently regulated at the federal level, and that the bill is incompatible with the general rules issued by the Union."
The proposed bill PL 300/20 , authored by Representative Arthur do Val (Patriotas), aimed to eliminate half-price tickets for specific categories in the state. The approved text states that half-price tickets for artistic events, cinemas, and other activities, currently reserved for only certain categories such as senior citizens and students, will now be valid "for all people aged 0 to 99 years."
In practice, the project would eliminate the benefit, and the half-price ticket would become the standard price charged at ticket offices.
