Beatles ' new and final unreleased song , "Now and Then," was released this Thursday, the 2nd.
"Now and Then" is originally a demo recorded by John Lennon in 1978. In the recording, John appears singing and playing piano in his apartment in the Dakota building in New York.
In 1994, widow Yoko Ono gave the recording to McCartney, George Harrison , and Ringo Starr . The surviving members, along with producer Jeff Lynne , recorded new parts and completed a version of "Now and Then".
Now, thanks to artificial intelligence, McCartney and Starr have managed to isolate and process John Lennon's voice. The result will be remembered as "the last Beatles song".
The song, which you can listen to below, will get a music video this Friday, the 3rd, directed by Peter Jackson , who was responsible for the 2021 documentary The Beatles: Get Back. The group also released a mini-documentary about the behind-the-scenes of the song – watch it here.
Speaking about the creative process, Starr commented that it was like "having John Lennon back." He said, "It was the closest we ever got to having him [ John Lennon ] back in the room, so it was very emotional for all of us."
McCartney previously explained that Lennon's voice is "crystal clear" on 'Now And Then', adding: "It's quite moving."
