Lars Ulrich revealed in an interview with Rock City that he sees Stranger Things as a gateway for Metallica to reach new audiences. The track " Master Of Puppets ," which was featured in the show's fourth season in 2022, had a huge impact across several generations of fans.
“This time I realized, since I’ve been giving interviews for two or three weeks now, and I think the feeling is kind of the same with the other guys in the band, that when we were younger we spent a lot of time explaining to the world what we were doing and we worried a lot about clearly defining what our intentions were. But today we have less interest in that, I would say we practically hesitate and are afraid to try to do that,” said the drummer (transcription via Blabbermouth ).
“Today I’m just happy to see that heavy music and rock still have a place, to see so many young people connecting with music again. I see it in my children; I’ve seen the phenomenon of Stranger Things , with so many kids discovering ‘Master of Puppets,’ and this might end up being a gateway to more Metallica music or more heavy music in general.”
“So I see that there’s still a worldwide awakening when kids are 12, 13, 14 years old, to get involved with music, and how we’re part of that discovery becomes something incredible. I think as we get older, we do the best we can. But it’s good, for sure, to carry the music forward and always try to do the best we can. It still feels like if our bodies and different arms and elbows and necks and hands and knees and throats and backs, or whatever, can hold up, we hope to have some good records left and some good years. So let’s go ahead with it and keep bringing heavy music to the world.”
Previously, the group reprimanded fans who were annoyed by the audience coming from the series .
