Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich spoke in an interview about Dave Mustaine and Scott Ian's statements that Metallica intended to fire him after the 1986 tour . According to the musician, he never knew about the story.
“It’s certainly not something I knew. But I can tell you that there were times when there was tension with this or that member, and things got a little weird with this particular guy, things like that. When you have an entity like Metallica, which has been together for 35 years, there are different moments in that journey where the idea of what to do next with the dynamic brought different opinions with different potential solutions. There were times when Kirk’s future was kind of uncertain, and times when Hetfield’s future was kind of uncertain, and times when my future was kind of uncertain, that’s very possible. I’m sure Scott Ian knows something I don’t, and I’m okay with that. It just wasn’t something that was on my radar.”
