Lars Ulrich reveals which Metallica songs he most enjoys performing live.

"There are rigid songs and others that are a little more free," said the musician

Last Tuesday, the 4th, Lars Ulrich SiriusXM Metallica songs are his favorites to play live.

“I have a few favorites! ' Sad But True ' is one of my favorites; I like its feel. It's a song I play very differently each time. There are some rigid songs and others that are a little more free. 'Sad But True' falls on the extreme end of the free scale. Every night, I play it differently,” said the drummer (transcription via Loudwire ).

“I love playing ' Welcome Home (Sanitarium) ' because it has more or less the same kind of approach; I don't think I've ever played it the same way twice. So, these are fun. They're the first ones that come to mind.”

"Sad But True" was the fifth single from the album Metallica (1991) and is based on the control assumed by a person's dark side. Meanwhile, "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)," the fourth single from Master of Puppets (1986), expresses what it's like to be trapped in insanity.

Lars Ulrich also shared what the band represents to him. “For me, one of the main parts of the Metallica experience is the community and the collective experience and just sharing. I was an only child growing up. I listened to most of my music in my early years alone. But then you start hanging out with your friends and just sharing those musical experiences. And the reason I wanted to be in a band was to play music and share it with other open-minded people like me” (via Confere Rock ).

"So, being in a band, being out there and playing and doing shows, it's all about that communal experience, trying to break down that barricade, that physical barricade between the band and the audience and just trying to unify ourselves. And so in Metallica, that's one of our modus operandi , it's just trying to figure out how to bring everyone together and share."
