Lars Ulrich explains why the Black Album was so successful

Check the statement.

In an interview on Billboard's podcast, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich spoke about Metallica's self-titled album, known as the Black Album, which celebrated its 25th anniversary on August 31st. Check out his comments:

“We knew, when we were making the album, that there was some alignment of the planets or stars, whatever. We had some songs that… We prepared ourselves to write some smaller songs after having taken the progressive side of Metallica as far as we could on “…And Justice For All”.

So we started writing shorter songs and we felt comfortable with that, and with the addition of Bob Rock [producer], who helped us… He guided us through the recording process for a year that wasn't completely without complications and all that. But we all felt that the dynamic between Bob and whatever we did with the songs resulted in something special.

And also with the changes that were happening with rock, the culture, the role that MTV was playing and everything else, it all kind of aligned. I think considering how things could have gone off the rails and imploded, I think we handled it very well. We kind of got through it and managed to come out alive to tell the story.”

The Black Album, released in 1991, is one of the best-selling albums in the United States, with approximately 5,000 copies sold per week to this day.
