He reveals that the band has strong European influences
Lars Ulrich, drummer for Metallica, appeared on NPR Wait Wait… Don't Tell Me! and spoke about the success the band has achieved.
When asked about the band's unique sound, he explains that many of their influences came from Europe and the musical movement that took place in the 1980s, "That's why we became better known, because we had a different sound than bands from California and the United States in general."
When asked about the choice of the name Metallica, Lars reveals that the idea actually came from someone he met at a party. Ron Quintana was talking to the drummer when he mentioned that he was starting to write a fanzine and wanted an opinion on the name, "Metallica or Metal Mania? So I told him that Metal Mania was better!"
Currently, Metallica is preparing to return to Europe for the WorldWired in February and has plans to extend it to the United States.
Hardwired…To Self Destruct , the album the band is promoting, reached the top of Billboard's list of best-selling albums of 2017.
