"The new album is incredible," said Lars about Arctic Monkeys' Tranquility Base Hotel And Casino.
In a new interview with Maxim Magazine Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich was asked if he's been listening to new music. He replied: “While I'm working or driving, I listen to more Arctic Monkeys than anything else. The new album is incredible. It makes you want to revisit the whole catalog because every record is different. You fall in love with it again for different reasons than five or eight years ago. I would say that, when I think about 2018, the main pillar of music was Arctic Monkeys. But lately, I've been spending a lot of my free time watching movies.”
This isn't the first time Ulrich has praised Arctic Monkeys. In 2012, Metallica booked the band to play at Orion Music + More. Lars then said that the band's heavy metal sound makes them perfect for opening the festival. "For me, having Arctic Monkeys there is huge," he said. "I think they're a heavy metal band disguised as an indie band. If you listen to 'Perhaps Vampires Is a Bit Strong But…', there are almost Rush in there."
Three years ago, Ulrich named the Monkeys' song "RU Mine?" as a song he didn't know off the top of his head. "I must have listened to it nine million times since it came out. My kids are crazy about it," he said. "I taught my kids to listen to rock from a young age. The oldest started listening to the song first. Then the other two started. Now, they're always fighting amongst themselves, 'pick a band for yourself!'. I'm like, 'hey, you sons of bitches! I'm the one who introduced you to it, so stop it.'"
