The drummer spoke about illegal downloads and new bands
Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich appeared on Reddit last night for a Q&A session with fans, stating he'd answer anything. Check out some of the highlights:
What do you think of metal today? Do you think we'll ever see a band as big as Maiden/Metallica/Priest again? Do you think metal will ever be as big as it was in the '80s?
Lars Ulrich: That's a great question. I think it would be amazing if a band came along and shook things up again. But I don't know who. I think one of the best bands of recent years is Baroness. And I love the Norwegian band Kvelertak. But I don't know if any of these bands can take Metal to the next level again.
When will you release a new album? What do you think of Death Magnetic?
Lars Ulrich: We're going to release a new album. We'll start working on it as soon as this Q&A session is over! Death Magnetic is the album that has lasted the longest for me, in a positive way, out of all our albums.
Lars, have you ever downloaded anything illegal from the internet?
Lars Ulrich: Yes. When Death Magnetic leaked 10 days prior, one of the technicians was at my house and we were drinking wine, and we messed around a bit with Torrent and downloaded our own music, which we felt entitled to do. The scary part is how easy it was.
Why on earth didn't you play Trapped Under Ice at the show in Antarctica?
Lars Ulrich: We forgot! We talked about it the week before, but then, with so much excitement, we literally forgot.
Lars, after all this time, how do you feel about Dave Mustaine?
Lars Ulrich: Nothing has changed. I respect him as a musician and will always love him as a brother and part of Metallica.
Do you think James Hetfield could kill a bear with his bare hands?
Lars Ulrich: I think he already did that.
What's your favorite Megadeth song?
Lars Ulrich: My Last Words.
What's the most metal thing you've ever done?
Lars Ulrich: Pick my nose.
