In an interview with Rolling Stone, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich was asked if Metallica intends to stay active for a long time. The drummer replied:

“The only limiting aspect would be the physical element of it. If the arms, legs, knees, elbows, throats, and everything else, the backs and necks, if everything stays intact, I don't see why we wouldn't do it for a significant amount of time.”

And Lars' idea is to keep making albums: “I hope we keep recording albums until the day we collapse. That's certainly what inspires, what gives the feeling of still being part of the game. I respect our colleagues who feel differently, but feeling that we still have something to say is an important part of feeling vital, confident and being okay with yourself.”

Finally, Ulrich commented on the sound of “Hardwired… To Self Destruct”, Metallica’s new album to be released on November 18th: “I think this album is a bit more punk in some ways and maybe less progressive. It’s all about the riffs and grooves. What it doesn’t have is a big ballad, everything is very upbeat.”
