Let's get to know some bands that have captivated and continue to captivate metalheads in Ceará

By Marcel Melo Queiroz.

Greetings, lovers of good old "Heavy Rock". As everyone should know, the state of Ceará is known as the "Land of Forró". This is true to a certain extent, considering the number of bands born daily in this region and the exposure they receive in the mainstream media, which lately has even been occurring in the South and Southeast regions.

However, since we're on Wikimetal, the intention here is to showcase excellent bands that unfortunately remain unknown only to the local audience, if at all. Let's now get to know some bands that have captivated and continue to captivate the metalheads of Ceará.

Beowulf – Few people know, but we also had a pioneer of Power Metal here, the legendary Beowulf. The band played a sound reminiscent of Viper and Helloween, at a time when Mr. Weikath's band was practically unknown here. Since vinyl records took a long time to arrive in the Northeast as a whole, this was a real disaster compared to the rest of Brazil, as it's common knowledge that this country lagged behind in the 70s and 80s when it comes to heavy music.

Some musicians from Odisseya play Christian hymns in an evangelical church, which shows that prejudice against religious beliefs should also be abolished in Metal.”

Obskure – Probably the most recognized band in the Ceará music scene, and also one of the pioneers. They play a brutal, highly technical Death Metal, full of influences from various Metal subgenres, with elements ranging from Progressive to Gothic, which surprisingly the band does without losing the brutality of their sound.

Odyssey – A pleasant surprise that recently emerged on the Fortaleza scene, playing Prog/Black Metal with influences ranging from Dream Theater to Borknagar. Despite being a new band, many of the musicians are already experienced. The most curious thing is that some of them play Christian hymns in an evangelical church in Fortaleza, which shows that prejudice against religious beliefs should also be abolished in Metal.

Roque's Cave – An excellent band playing pure Rock and Roll. Caverna do Roque's performances are literally incendiary, and they also demonstrate the musicians' great skill on their instruments, despite the simplicity of the sound, as pure and simple Rock should be.

Drive Sex – A great Hard Rock band with a fantastic vocalist. Their sound, with lyrics in Portuguese, directly evokes the 80s, so fans of bands like Motley Crue, Cinderella, Ratt, and Faster Pussycat need to check out this great band.

Renegades – A band that perfectly represents what Hard/Metal was like in the 70s. Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and especially Led Zeppelin are direct references, and what could be better? They also have lyrics in Portuguese that reflect the anxieties of everyday life, more specifically those of Northeastern Brazil.

Despite their hard rock roots, The Knickers explore the wilder side of the genre, drawing inspiration from bands like Warlock, The Runaways, and Crucified Barbara

Vulcani – Without a doubt, the biggest name in Ceará's Hard Rock scene. All the musicians are fantastic, but the inevitable standout is vocalist Fets Domino, with an impressive voice full of personality. Especially live, these guys show what they're made of.

The Knicks – It seems that Ceará is very well served with Hard Rock bands. This band, formed exclusively by women, makes a great sound, and they are all excellent instrumentalists. Despite being Hard Rock, don't expect a calm sound, as they practice the wilder side of the style, with references to Warlock, The Runaways and, more recently, Crucified Barbara.

Steel Fox – Here's a band that's sorely missed in the Ceará music scene. It's a shame for many who couldn't see them live, as is the case with this writer. They played highly competent Power Metal and had an excellent guitar duo, brothers Daniel Camelo and Júlio Alcindo, who sadly passed away recently and was known as the Northeastern Kai Hansen. Darkside – Veteran thrashers from the Ceará scene. One of the most acclaimed bands in the state, with great recognition throughout the Northeast and having already played numerous shows all over Brazil. They recently released the explosive album Prayers in Doomsday.

These were just a few simple examples of the quality of bands that Ceará has, also serving as an incentive for the exchange of information. It would be very interesting if the WikiBrothers did the same with their respective scenes, which helps to break down borders and facilitate the discovery of bands of tremendous quality.
