Lamb of God released the music video for "Memento Mori" this Wednesday, the 18th. The track will be on the band's upcoming self-titled album, scheduled for release on May 8th. The video tells the story of a man who doesn't realize the global spread of a deadly virus. It couldn't be more relevant to the times we live in, right?
According to vocalist Randy Blythe , who came up with the idea for the song months before the pandemic that currently plagues the world, it's a coincidence. The protagonist of the music video, who is asleep while the TV is on, wakes up to find himself face to face with a legion of zombies relentlessly chasing him.
Regarding the message of the music video, Blythe states that the refrain "Wake up! / Wake up!" refers to the care that must be taken so that humanity is not overwhelmed by the large amount of technology that leaves us anxious and tense. This includes social media, TVs, and even messages from friends. However, it is important to stay informed, especially in situations like COVID-19 , while maintaining sanity in the face of this information.
The vocalist also emphasizes, regarding the pandemic, the urgency of being careful with sensationalist news headlines and fake news that are everywhere on the internet. The virus is not the only zombie chasing people right now.
