Sleepless Empire features tracks that explore themes of resilience as we navigate desperate times. Cristina Scabbia , the band's vocalist, questioned this while creating the album (via A Rádio Rock ): “How do we deal with difficult times? Do we ask for a hand or isolate ourselves in our own misanthropic gilded cage?”
In an interview with Kerrang! (via A Rádio Rock ), Scabbia spoke about the meaning of the new album's title: “We chose Sleepless Empire because it represents the times we live in. We’re always awake, trying to be productive and connected, but at the same time, we’ve never been so disconnected and anxious. It’s like we need to prove something all the time, because otherwise we’ll be forgotten.”
