L7 returns to Brazil in October for several shows in the country. In addition to Maranhão Open Air , the American band will also perform in São Paulo on the 20th, at Carioca Club. The group's current tour features career hits such as "Pretend We're Dead," a hit from 1992.
The American band is known as one of the pioneers of the feminist movement in punk/grunge and the Riot grrrl movement of the early 1990s. The Los Angeles quartet was compared to Nirvana and was one of the most revered bands at the Hollywood Rock , held in 1993.
After a 14-year hiatus that began in the 2000s, L7 is back in action in top form with explosive shows, a series of live album releases featuring recordings from the 1990s, and new music. The band's most recent album is Scatter the Rats (2017), their first in almost 20 years. The band consists of Donita Sparks (guitar/vocals), Suzi Gardner (guitar/vocals), Dee Plakas (drums), and Jennifer Finch (bass).
The L7 show in São Paulo is a Maraty production, with production by Powerline. The opening act will feature two classic Brazilian punk rock bands: Cólera and As Mercenárias . Tickets for the show are on sale at the Clube do Ingresso website (see details below) and prices range from R$ 180 (half-price general admission) to R$ 620 (full-price VIP ticket in the second batch).
L7's last visit to Brazil was in 2018, after 25 years without returning to the country. Wikimetal 's coverage of the show in São Paulo hailed the performance as one of the best of the year: “L7 delivered one of the best shows of the year, showcasing the power of female rock. Donita Sparks has already said that the band is back and wants to serve as a model for the new generation. To form a youth that challenges, that takes its rightful place and destroys everything, whether on stage or in the traditions of society. And, if it depends on them, they will succeed. Watching L7 live is inspiring.”
L7's new South American tour, which includes more dates in Brazil and other countries, is a production of Venus Concerts.
