The band needed to find a new frontman after Erlend Hjelvik's departure

Norwegian band Kvelertak has announced Ivar Nikolaisen as their new vocalist, replacing Erlend Hjelvik , who left the band last week. The news was revealed during their set at the Fjellparkfestivalen, which took place this past weekend in the band's home country.

After the presentation, Kvelertak released a statement about the lineup change: “We are very excited to have Ivar with us (…) Kvelertak has a history with him since the beginning of the group. Ivar is the frontman we need and it’s natural that he takes the throne.”.

Ivar concluded the statement by saying that he has always been a big fan of the group and that he is excited about this new phase. “I won’t try to imitate Erlend. He’s a lion and I’m just a little mouse. But this mouse is nervous, infected, and full of pesticide – ready to take this machine far.”

In addition to the current tour, Kvelertak is in the studio preparing a new album, the successor to Nattesferd (2016), which is expected to be released in 2019.
