The day Kurt Cobain performed a lingerie concert in Brazil.

Nirvana's visit to Brazil in 1993 was chaotic.

Even 27 years after his death on April 5, 1994, Kurt Cobain remains an icon and visionary in music and ideals. Contrary to misogynistic notions of toxic masculinity, the musician questioned conventional wisdom in various ways, whether through songs like "Rape Me" or his choice of image.

In January 1993, Nirvana played their only two concerts in Brazil. The performances weren't the best, as Rolling Stone . The band had been away from the stage since October of the previous year and gave a disorganized show in São Paulo on the 16th, featuring covers and irritation among the members.

The second performance took place at the Hollywood Rock festival in Rio de Janeiro. During the encore, Kurt Cobain returned to the stage wearing padded lingerie and a tiara, while Dave Grohl was wearing a bra and a baseball cap.

After a cover of Aerosmith the band played "Dive," from the compilation album Incesticide . The performance was included on the live DVD Live! Tonight! Sold Out!!, released the following year.

Cobain's stance against sexism led to a feud with Axl Rose Guns N' Roses frontman for shows, the two clashed during an event. Relive this and other feuds involving Axl here.
