A self-portrait by Kurt Cobain recently went up for auction and sold for over one million reais.
The drawing, called a "caricature self-portrait," depicts Kurt Cobain playing guitar and bears his signature as "Kurdt Kobain Rock Star" and "I can't play and I don't care." The work was sold as part of a series of music icons by Julien's Auctions that included other items from artists such as Eddie Van Halen and Prince.
According to the company, the drawing was made by Cobain while he was on tour with Nirvana in Singapore to promote the iconic 1992 album Nevermind . They also revealed that the drawing was given as a gift to photographer Jacque Chong , who was with Cobain at the time he made it.
The self-portrait was estimated to sell for between $10,000 and $20,000, and after 21 bids it sold for $281,250, approximately R$1,436,231. See the drawing below.
