Buzz Osborne reveals why Kurt Cobain was fired from the Melvins' album.

The Nirvana frontman partially co-produced the 1993 album 'Houdini'.

In an interview with Revolver , Buzz Osborne spoke about the real reason behind Kurt Cobain from the production process of the Melvins' album Houdini ( 1993 ) .

In August, the classic sludge metal band's album turned 30 – the same milestone recently reached by Nirvana , In Utero (1993) . Cobain, who was credited as one of the co-producers of Houdini , was fired from his duties at one point, giving rise to rumors and speculation.

According to Buzz Osborne, the main reason the Melvins no longer wanted to work with Kurt Cobain was linked to the singer's heroin addiction and its impact on Kurt's behavior. "He didn't show up for one of the sessions, and it became very obvious," he comments. "It wasn't a judgment, from my point of view, it was more of a 'this isn't going to work'."

Osborne also recounts that, at the time, he personally went to the office of Nirvana's manager, Danny Goldberg , and explained the reasons behind his decision. In Buzz's words, Goldberg "conveniently doesn't remember any of this" and allegedly said publicly that Kurt quit his job producing the Melvins because the band wanted him to write their songs. "That's absurd. I don't need anyone writing songs for me," says Osborne.

Regarding heroin, Buzz Osbourne commented that "no one is free" from the suffering caused by addiction, whether very rich or extremely poor. "It will affect everyone equally and destroy everyone equally," he reflected. He also mentioned how "difficult" it was when Kurt Cobain, one of his oldest friends, succumbed to the drug. "I would have preferred to see him alive and unfamous than famous and dead," he lamented.
