Six strands of Kurt Cobain's hair are sold for over R$73,000

The person in charge of the auction received the lock of hair from a friend of the musician

Kurt Cobain 's hair , the legendary leader of Nirvana , has come to an end. The unusual item was sold for US$14,000, equivalent to more than R$73,600 at the current exchange rate.

The lock of Cobain's blond hair was about six strands long, according to LourderSound , and was cut in 1989 by Tessa Osbourne , a friend of the singer, who kept the strands to remember the first time the musician had the haircut for which he would be remembered in the following years, with a considerably shorter length than before.

The item was given as a gift to Nicole DePolo after Cobain's death in 1994, with photos from the day of the haircut provided as part of the proof of authenticity at the auction. “Tessa met Kurt in England, and they became friends during the Bleach ,” Nicole said. “When it came to Kurt, Tessa was what Astrid Kirchherr had been to the Beatles – the woman who had given him his iconic haircut.”
