Starting this Thursday, May 6th, Iconic Auctions will be auctioning off some exclusive items, and one of them is rather unusual: a piece of Kurt Cobain's hair.
Among personal items, stage props, and memorabilia not only from Nirvana , but also from The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton , and Led Zeppelin, is a lock of Cobain's blond hair, cut in 1989 by the singer's friend, Tessa Osbourne .
The auctioned lock of hair was kept by Tessa as a memento of the first time she gave Kurt Cobain the haircut he would later be remembered for. At the time, however, the young woman could not have foreseen the phenomenon that Nirvana would become, which was in the middle of the Bleach , years before the resounding success that would follow Nevermind .
After Cobain's death in 1994, Tessa decided to gift her friend and artist Nicole DePolo with a lock of the singer's hair, and it is Nicole who is now offering the item for auction. “When it comes to Kurt, Tessa was kind of what Astrid Kirchherr had been to the Beatles: the woman who gave him his iconic haircut. She even took some photos to prove it. The rest is history,” wrote Nicole.
