According to The Guardian Kurt Cobain 's final days will be the subject of an opera scheduled to premiere at the Royal Opera House in London sometime in 2022.

The production is titled Last Days and is an adaptation of the film of the same name directed by Gus Van Sant and released in 2005. The film was openly inspired by Cobain's death and tells the story of a musician named Blake who lives in Seattle.

The opera, inspired by the Nirvana , was composed by Oliver Leith , who admitted to being a huge fan of the band since adolescence. “Those were the first songs I learned to play on guitar. I owe a lot of how I make music to the grunge of that era,” he told The Guardian .

The story should follow the film's lead in not sensationalizing death, but rather using it as "a lens through which we see the sleepwalking life of everyday life in an enhanced way," as Leith describes it. "I think opera helps to increase the value of the everyday," he concludes.

Last Monday, the 5th, marked the 28th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death.
