Ray Luzier , drummer for Korn , participated in the podcast The Modern Drummer , hosted by David Frangioni . During the interview, which is available on YouTube , the musician shared some of his favorite memories from his years with the band.
“I love making a new record and I love touring to promote it… Now that I’m part of the band, I write songs with them, I’m on an album and then I go out and play those songs live. I love the classics.” (via Blabbermouth )
New music and the band's creative process.
Guitarist Brian “Head” Welch had previously commented that new Korn music should be released in 2024.
Regarding the creative process, Luzier said that it's very collaborative among all the band members, but the final result of a song ends up being created by one or two members.
One example cited was the single “Never Never” from the album The Paradigm Shift, composed by vocalist Jonathan Davis . “He brought us a song that he wrote, composed everything. And we thought, 'Wow, this is catchy. What do we do?' [He said] 'Do whatever you want.' The drums he put in there were very simple. And I ended up doing a very simplistic function because I didn't want to crush the song.”
The drummer highlighted that "one of the things I like most about Korn is their courage to experiment with different sounds."
In The Path of Totality , the band incorporated elements of electronic music, which was a significant change. "This annoyed some people, but we also gained some new fans who liked this style of music." (via Blabbermouth )
On their most recent album, Requiem, “we went kind of old school, partially analog, we went back to that energy of just walking into a room and playing. And that’s one of the best moments for me, seeing those roots grow in the music. It becomes something that attracts the audience” (via Blabbermouth )
The musician went on to point out that performing live is one of the best feelings for him, and nothing compares to the feeling of the audience, whether it's 500 or 50,000 people, singing back and enjoying the show.
