Korn, Papa Roach, and Deftones are the "next Metallica," says Jacoby Shaddix.

The frontman was asked about the future of rock and metal in terms of large-scale tours.

Metallica 's place when the time comes? For Jacoby Shaddix , there's no reason to worry about the future of rock and metal arena touring, as we have bands like Korn , Deftones Papa Roach themselves ready for that role.

The statement was made during an interview with Lazer 103.3 (via Blabbermouth ), in which host Andy Hall addressed a recurring question for rock and metal fans: will we ever have bands as big as the classic ones, capable of filling stadiums and arenas like Metallica, Iron Maiden , and Kiss , for example? Or will rock and metal become a niche after the retirement of the genre's titans?

According to the Papa Roach vocalist, this transition will happen naturally. “We’re seeing Metallica take over that Rolling Stones position [on arena tours] now. And the Foo Fighters are another example. And Korn, Papa Roach, and Deftones, we’re like the next Metallica, you know what I mean? That’s it. We’re taking over that position now. It’s just a matter of surviving the pitfalls of this rock and roll life. And if you can do that and continue to create good art and good music, then we can enter that space,” he said.

Despite Shaddix's confidence, Brazilian headbangers don't show the same confidence in the future of heavy metal. In a Wikimetal poll , 55% of people voted that metal "won't disappear completely, but, like classical music or jazz, it will be for a select few and won't fill stadiums anymore" when established bands retire.

Papa Roach's most recent release is the album Ego Trip , released in April 2022 via New Noize Records, in partnership with ADA Worldwide.
